HOW IS AFRICA ASSOCIATED WITH TEA?

The practice of boiling and stewing various herbs and plants is as old as the African continent itself.  This tradition is a cultural staple among Africans and their descendants worldwide.

Not only that, true tea (from the camellia sinensis plant) was brought to Africa through colonisation. Ideal climates and rich, arable soil in 17+ African countries produce some of the world’s finest teas and is a major supplier to several mega tea-consuming regions like the UK.

THE BACKSTORY

My love of tea came from my Barbados-born, late mother and was handed down to her through many generations.

For me, tea is comfort, tea is healing, tea is revitalising, tea is relaxing…tea is life!

And so it hit me when I reconnected and awakened to those distant roots, it felt like the perfect combination to incorporate the world’s (and my) most consumed beverage after water, into a business that gave me the opportunity to source and partner with small businesses on the continent.  It also allowed me to drink in the wondrous elements of cultures of various African regions and ethnicities.
